High Profile Illinois Farmland Auctions

Since December of 2012 Sterling Land Company in collaboration with Gordon Stade Auctions has conducted a number of successful public auctions of high profile Illinois farmland properties.

A partial list of those auctions would include-

• 660 Acres in Whiteside County-sold for nearly $9 Million or $13,565/Acre.
• The Leaf River Ranch in Ogle County-a 1,412 acre sprawling cattle ranch put together by Ford Ferguson in the 50’s and 60’s-Offered for sale in 7 parcels-sold for over $7.5 Million.
• 645 acres in Boone County just outside of Belvidere-sold for nearly $6 Million or about $9,038/Acre.
• The Kelly Farm in Whiteside County-a very nice nearly all tillable quarter section suitable for irrigation-sold for $10,100/Acre.

While we still recommend the traditional private listing strategy for selling most farms, certain farms do lend themselves to the public auction method.

So while we may not conduct nearly as many auctions of Illinois farmland as other firms, you can be assured that the auctions we do agree to conduct will receive our maximum attention.

Knock on wood we have never had a “NO SALE”.

There are a number of things that go in to having a successful auction; we definitely do not just show up on the day of the sale. We would need a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks lead time to conduct a successful marketing campaign and make all the necessary preparations for the day of the sale.
